Love your heart no matter what your age! That’s the message coming from one of the UK’s leading healthcare providers during National Heart Week (3-11 June). Advantage Healthcare is getting behind the British Heart Foundation’s campaign and is urging people of all ages to start looking after their heart.
Melissa Gane, Marketing Manager for Advantage Healthcare says: "It’s a worrying fact that most of us think heart disease or a heart attack will happen to someone else,, rather than ourselves. Young people think it’s confined to the elderly while those of us more mature in years think it’s too late to do anything about it, which simply isn’t true."
Advantage Healthcare has a wealth of experience running health promotion campaigns. They supply nurses to a range of clients who require health checks including last years’ Flora pro.activ roadshow, which involved thousands of people across the country, in the biggest heart health testing campaign in the UK.
Here are Advantage Healthcare’s top 5 tips for a healthy heart:
1. Keep your diet as healthy as possible. No one's a saint but don't be a complete sinner either. Your diet will have a direct impact on your weight and cholesterol both important factors in keeping your heart healthy.
2. Keep active. Melissa says "Our nurses look after all sorts of people on a daily basis whether in hospital or at home, some of who have very little mobility but we always encourage people to keep as active as possible for numerous reasons. It will keep your weight in check, reduce stress and keep muscles toned.
3. Encourage your kids to live a healthy life. Remember lifelong habits are learnt young, so it’s really important to ensure your kids are health and heart conscious from an early age.
4. Stop smoking! As the smoking ban comes into force on 1st July , smoking will be banned in public places, so now really is a great time to think about quitting. Advantage Healthcare are working with some leading high street names to deliver smoking cessation advice so keep an eye out for further details.
5. Relax. Find a hobby or pass-time you enjoy doing, especially if you have a stressful job or busy home life, it will relax and de-stress you; high blood pressure is definitely something to avoid if you want a healthy heart.
